After yesterday’s individual fight against the clock, today the riders start with the actual tour through Luxembourg. They’ll leave the capital behind and head for Bascharage covering 192.8 kilometers. The profile shows a track which repeatedly goes up and down, with hardly a straight piece to detect. The first part of the race will be ridden in north-eastern direction. Right from the start, it immediately goes uphill followed by a continous series of climbs. Around kilometer 32.4, the peloton reaches Echternach where a short break can be taken during a relatively flat piece. It’s also the point where the track gets close to the German border. The first of three more bigger and rated climbs in this stage is the Michelsbierg (2012m climb at 7.68%). Thereafter the track moves southward along the Moselle river. Between Osweiler and Grevenmacher it includes several succeeding ascends and descends. After 77 kilometers of racing, a more appealing climb challenges the riders; the steep Cote de Wormeldange-Haut (1570m climb at 6.94%). Just before the route proceeds in western direction, the riders climb the Scheierberg (2710m climb at 5.38%). It’s descend will lead into the direction of Mondorf-les-Bains, situated close to the French border and known for its spa facilities. The final part of the race includes a local circuit in Bascharage with three laps of 15 kilometers each. The first lap starts at kilometer 147.8. A mass sprint isn’t obvious, looking at the sloping last part of the race. Maybe a succeeding flight might hold on to the finish. Current GC: 1. Cancellara (LEO) 2. Gaudin (EUC) +5″ 3.
