Skoda Tour de Luxembourg 2011 (stage 3)

Today, the battle on the road continues in the northern part of Luxembourg. The stage runs from Eschweiler to Roost over 185 kilometers. Like the two previous stages, this track can also be characterized as undulating and consists of 2088 ascending meters. From the start the riders head north into the direction of Lullange, where they’ll take a turn and continue west towards Marnach. Here awaits the first out of 7 categorized climbs: Marnach (3770m climb at 3.95%). Next the course leads south to Vianden where the longest climb of this Skoda Tour awaits: the Mont St. Nicolas (4400m climb at 6.02%). At Wahlhausen, 520m above sea level, the highest point in the stage is reached and it is 19 kilometers further, at kilometer 85, where the rollercoaster ride continues with a series of climbs shortly after another as the bunch is heading back to Eschweiler: Weicherdange (3450m climb at 4.20%), Eschweiler (1400m climb at 5.78%) and the short but spicy climb of Um Knupp (900m climb at 9.33%). Heading south, southeast, the last two rated climbs of the day follow. At kilometer 127 the riders encounter Lepschter Dellt (1750m climb at 6.80%) followed by Broderbour (2100m climb at 7.24%) at kilometer 138.5. This climb was included in last year’s finishing circuit in and around Diekirch. The final part of the stage, beforehand dubbed the queen’s stage, consists of a local circuit with three laps (9.3 kilometers each) in and around Roost. As we have seen the previous stages, the race probably will be controlled again by Leopard-Trek, who have the ambition to add this home race to their list of victories. Current GC: 1.
